Susan Ball is deputy director of the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut, with responsibility for four departments — collections, exhibitions, curatorial and education. For the past two years she has also served as interim director of education. After receiving a PhD in the History of Art and Architecture at Yale, she taught art and architectural history at the University of Delaware, later attending the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and working in development at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her first book (1981) — Ozenfant and Purism, 1915-1930: The Evolution of a Style — grew out of her dissertation.
In 1986, Ball moved into administration, spending 20 years as executive director of the College Art Association and subsequently as director of its Centennial Book Project, writing, editing and producing The Eye, the Hand, the Mind: 100 Years of the College Art Association (2011). She also worked for the New York Foundation for the Arts, where she co-edited The Profitable Artist (2010). She has taught “Leadership, Governance, and Strategic Planning” in the graduate arts administration program at NYU, and “Cultural Policy and the Arts” in the graduate arts administration program at Baruch College, CUNY.
Ball has served on numerous not-for-profit boards, including the National Humanities Alliance, National Cultural Alliance, American Council of Learned Societies, New York Foundation for the Arts, ArtTable, and the Byrdcliffe Artists’ Colony. She has been a member of the Yale Graduate School Alumni Association board, having served as its AYA Delegate, and has been involved with its “Where Do I Go from Yale?” conference. She has been active in the Yale Day of Service and has mentored students through several Yale alumni organizations.
Paul Broholm is chief investment officer of Theodoor Gilissen Bankiers NV, a private bank based in Amsterdam that focuses on asset management and portfolio advisory services. After graduating from Yale with a B.A. in philosophy, he worked as a research assistant at the Rotterdam School of Management, and then pursued a PhD at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He co-founded a communications firm in the 1980s, then moved to the Netherlands in 1991.
Broholm co-founded the Yale Club of the Netherlands in 2006, and has served as its president since 2009. He spearheaded organization of the AYA’s first International Club Leadership Forum, in London in 2012, and has since hosted a similar forum in Amsterdam, as well as two events in that city for the Yale Global Alumni Leadership Exchange (YaleGALE). Paul has been a participant in the AYA’s pilot alumni-student mentoring program, having served on the Alumni Schools Committee for many years.
Since joining the AYA Board of Governors in 2015, Broholm has served on its Communications & Marketing Committee, and the Volunteer Leadership Committee.
Renata Cesar is a Yale College and Stanford Law graduate whose international experience encompasses mergers and acquisition law, nonprofit directorships, and the preservation of historical European buildings. Her current restoration project is a ruined 17th-century palazzo on the island of Malta. She has also established and chaired a foundation in the United Kingdom to improve diversity and access to education.
As a Yale volunteer, Cesar has been a longstanding member of the management committee of the Yale Club of London, and helped launch the London chapter of YaleWomen. She developed and chairs the Yale International Alliance, an AYA shared interest group formed in 2014 whose mission is to connect international alumni with each other and back to the university.
Cesar became a member of the AYA Board of Governors in 2016 after volunteering for three years as an At-Large Delegate. She serves on the board’s Careers, Life & Yale Committee, its Shared Interest Groups Committee, and the Volunteer Leadership Committee.
Lise Chapman holds a B.A. degree from Stanford (1975), an MBA from Yale (1981) and a master’s degree in Counseling from Kean (2015). She is the immediate past chair of the AYA Board of Governors, having led the board from 2014 to 2016 after three years as a board member and one year as an executive officer.
Chapman has been a longtime supporter of the Yale Day of Service, volunteering as a site coordinator, regional director (2009-2015) and chair (2012-2014). In April 2015 she co-founded Careers, Life & Yale, an AYA campus-wide initiative to organize networking events to welcome alumni back to campus and share their careers and life skills with students; she continues to serves on its steering committee. In March 2016 she was one of the co-founders of 1stGenYale, a pilot shared interest group (SIG) to support first-generation and underserved students through networking programs with alumni. She is currently the group’s chair.
Chapman’s other volunteer service includes interviewing high school students for the Yale Club of Central New Jersey’s Alumni Schools Committee; traveling with the Yale Alumni Service Corps to Nicaragua and West Virginia in 2013, and to India in 2014; and working as an AmeriCorps VISTA member at NJ LEEP, a college-bound after-school program for underserved high school students in Newark. For her Yale School of Management class she chaired its 25th, 30th and 35th reunions; was a member of the 25th and 35th reunion gifts committee; and recently became ’81 class agent.
Pam Farr is a partner in Muirhead Holdings, a private equity firm in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her background includes service as chairman of Amerigives, a multimillion-dollar philanthropic outsourcing business, and 10 years as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, where she served a variety of Fortune 500 companies. As an entrepreneur, she founded and developed Banyan Homes, a real estate firm, and Best & Company, a manufacturer and retailer of children’s clothing and accessories. She was also a member of the board of directors of Dresdner RCM Global and Capital Funds, based in San Francisco.
Farr devotes substantial time to community service and philanthropy, most significantly with the American Red Cross. She served as national chair of finance from 2004 to 2008, when she was appointed national chair of volunteers. In that capacity she was a member of the senior management team representing some 700,000 Red Cross volunteers at the national level. Prior to her work at ARC National Headquarters in Washington DC, she chaired the ARC board in Greenwich, and held many other leadership positions in that chapter.
In addition to her Red Cross volunteer work, Farr is currently on the board of directors of the Old Globe Theater in San Diego, California, and Theatre Forward in New York City. She was elected to the board of Yale School of Management Alumni Association (SOMAA) in 2011, serving as its president from 2014 to 2016, and served as co-president of the New York SOMAA Chapter from 2010 to 2013. She joined the AYA Board of Governors in 2016.
Serena Flaherty is a pediatric nurse practitioner. After graduating from the Yale School of Nursing she worked at the Fair Haven Community Health Center in New Haven, where she provided leadership to a team providing the full scope pediatric primary care. She subsequently worked at the New York City Department of Health and The Door, an adolescent health center in New York, before relocating back to Connecticut. She now works for Maven Clinic, a company providing telehealth services to families.
Flaherty served as a board member of the Yale School of Nursing Alumnae/Association (YSNAA) from 2011 to 2014 and as its president from 2014 to 2016. During her tenure on the YSNAA Board, she created and launched the Yale School of Nursing Mentoring Program, which is now in its fourth year. She led the board in organizing alumni career panels, negotiation workshops, speed networking events, and virtual CV review events. For her work with the mentoring program, she was honored with an AYA Leadership Award for Volunteer Innovation and Service in 2014.
In 2016, Flaherty joined the AYA Board of Governors. She currently serves on the board’s Careers, Life & Yale Committee, its Graduate & Professional Schools Committee, and the Volunteer Leadership Committee.
Biff Folberth is a senior vice-president and investment counselor for Capital Group Private Client Services. He works directly with high-net-worth individuals and families to create customized plans for protecting and growing their wealth, often across multiple generations. He also helps nonprofit foundations and endowments realize long-term financial objectives through effective planning and investment management. Prior to joining Capital Group in 1991, he ran his own financial services firm and its real estate affiliate. He was also with Smith Barney, Harris Upham, Dean Witter Reynolds and Hornblower & Weeks-Hemphill, Noyes.
Folberth earned a certificate in the Owner/President Management program at Harvard Business School, an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business Administration (where he is adjunct professor of finance) and a B.S. from Yale University. He is a certified financial planner and holds a designation as Chartered Financial Analyst.
Folberth has served as board member, vice-chair and chair of the Yale Alumni Fund, and is currently secretary of the Yale College Class of 1966. He was honored with the Yale Medal in 2013, and has been a member of the AYA Board of Governors since 2014. He and his wife Liz reside in Bronxville, New York, where they can be near their children and grandchildren.
C.C. Gardner majored in African American Studies while at Yale. She currently works as a program officer at the Satterberg Foundation, a Seattle-based organization that seeks to strengthen communities by promoting social justic and environmental sustainability. She also serves on the boards of the Charlotte Martin Foundation, Philanthropy Northwest, and the Bush School. In addition, she is a partner with Social Venture Partners in Seattle.
Prior to her position at the Satterberg foundation, Gardner worked as director of programs at the Technology Access Foundation. Before shifting to the nonprofit sector, she spent many years in the software business as an engineer and project manager.
Gardner’s many volunteer roles for Yale have included being president of the Yale Black Alumni Association, serving on the governing council of YaleWomen, and volunteering as co-chair of the Yale Day of Service. Since her graduation from Yale, she has created partnerships and programs that have won the AYA’s Excellence Awards for Outstanding Day of Service. She was also an inaugural member of the Yale Black Alumni Association’s board of directors when the group was honored with the AYA’s Outstanding Shared Interest Group Award.
Lauren Graham is a social entrepreneur and coach. She is the founder of Velvet Frame, a social change strategy and communications startup that provides consulting services to mission-driven organizations on their leadership development and organizational design challenges through a method of applying ecological principles to collective action problems.
While pursuing her master’s degree in environmental management at at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, Graham directed the Environmental Film Festival at Yale — the largest student-run festival of its kind to be free and open to the public. Since 2014 she has chaired Yale Blue Green, a shared interest group focused on the sustainability and the environment. Under her leadership, YBG has grown to include three local branches on the East Coast, and hopes to continue expanding to include environmentally minded Yalies from all the graduate and professional schools.
Graham is a first-year member of the AYA Board of Governors member. She has volunteered as a Yale Day of Service site coordinator in New York City each year since 2015, and served as an AYA At-Large Delegate from 2013 to 2016.
As principal of the Greenly Group LLC and the Corporate Physician Leadership Center, Rob Greenly provides executive coaching, leadership development, team facilitation and training to physicians, scientists, engineers, academics, CFOs and other successful functional experts. His work experience has included being director of leadership at the MIT Sloan School of Management, director of Organization Development and Training at Astra Pharmaceuticals, vice-president of Leadership and Organization Development at Boston Scientific, and chief administrative officer for Human Resources at Putnam Investments.
In his volunteer capacity at Yale, Greenly served as president of YaleBoston from 2013 to 2015 and chair of the Yale School of Management Alumni Association of Boston. He previously served on the Yale SOM Alumni Association Board of Directors, where he co-chaired its Regional Chapters Committee. He chaired the SOM Class of 1983 25th reunion, served as an AYA Delegate, and volunteered as the SOM 1983 Class secretary, a Yale SOM student mentor, and a Yale SOM mock interviewer.
In July 2016, Greenly was elected to the AYA Board of Governors, where he is co-chairing a Graduate and Professional Schools Leadership Summit in April 2017. He is also helping to lead a proposed effort to pilot alumni-to-alumni career support.
Jerry Henry is a senior partner/owner of Alexander Haas, based in Atlanta, one of the leading fundraising consulting firms in the United States. With over 35 years of experience covering a wide range of non-profit institutions, he provides counsel on a daily basis to a diverse body of clients, including educational institutions, human service groups, cultural institutions and faith-based organizations.
In his volunteer roles at Yale, Henry has served the Yale Divinity School as a class secretary and class agent for the past 37 years. He is a past chair of the YDS Alumni Board, and currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council. He has volunteered with the Yale Alumni Schools Committee as an interviewer for Yale College applicants in the Atlanta area, and is an enthusiastic member of the Yale Club of Georgia.
Now in his third year as an elected member of the AYA Board of Governors, Henry has chaired the board’s Graduate & Professional Schools Committee for the past two years. He also serves on the Careers Life & Yale Committee, the Yale Alumni Fellow Nominations Committee, the Yale Medal Nominations Committee. He is also actively involved in mentoring current Yale students.
Chris Hill is a principal at Siemer and Associates, a boutique merchant bank based in Santa Monica, California, that provides highly targeted M&A, capital raising and financial advisory services to Internet, software and digital media companies. In his position at Siemer he helps lead M&A advisory for clients in the digital media and software space.
In his volunteer capacity at the Yale Club of Los Angeles starting soon after he graduated from Yale, Hill has served as a board member, secretary, AYA Delegate and treasurer. During his years of service he has helped organize many events and major initiatives, including Yale Tercentennial celebration in Los Angeles in 2001, and has helped to strengthen young alumni engagement and to implement best online payment and marketing practices. He was treasurer of the Yale College Class of 1999 from 2004 to 2014.
Hill has been a member of the AYA Board of Governors since 2015. He was an enthusiastic participant in two overseas trips organized by the Yale Global Alumni Leadership Exchange (YaleGALE), to Japn in 2009 and to Turkey in 2010.
A native of Cincinnati — home of the first Yale Club, founded in 1864 — Valerie Hotchkiss worked in Yale’s libraries before deciding to get a few graduate degrees at her favorite university, starting with a master’s and moving on to an MPhil and PhD, all in Medieval Studies. She remains devoted to libraries, currently serving as the university librarian of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hotchkiss has served in almost every possible capacity with the Yale Graduate School Alumni Association (GSAA), including as member, treasurer, vice-chair and chair. For the past several years she has volunteered as a site coordinator for the Yale Day of Service, and in 2015 she helped launch Yale LAMPS, a new shared interest group for library and museum professionals, serving as its inaugural chair. As a member of the AYA Board of Governors, she co-chairs the Careers, Life & Yale Committee, and sits on the Communications & Marketing Committee and the Graduate & Professional Schools Committee.
Hotchkiss is the author or co-author of several acclaimed books and articles on medieval cultural history, religion, and the history of books and printing.
Xiaoyan Huang is a practicing invasive cardiologist and healthcare executive who lives in Portland, Oregon. Born and raised in China, she was fortunate enough to receive financial aid that allowed her to attend Yale, and she feels eternally grateful to the university for its generosity. She attributes much of her professional success to her outstanding undergraduate education, superb professors and gifted fellow students.
As a volunteer alum, Huang has served as an alumni interviewer and in various roles at the Yale Alumni Association of Oregon & Southwest Washington, including board members, chair of its community service committee, and now president. She has traveled to China and Nicaragua with the Yale Alumni Service Corps, has participated in the “YaleGale@Yale” program of the Yale Global Alumni Leadership Exchange, and has helped organize events for the Yale Day of Service and other volunteer alumni activities. In 2015, she produced a very successful AYA-Redpath Conference on health policy for Yale alumni and the community in Portland, Oregon.
Huang has been a member of the AYA Board of Governors since 2015, and she serves as chair of its Volunteer Leadership Committee.
Maria Lopez-Bresnahan is a physician and biopharmaceutical executive. She is currently VP of Neurology Clinical Development at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where she leads the clinical development of new medicines for neurologic diseases. After graduating from Yale she received her MD from New York University School of Medicine. She then trained in neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School where she served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology and where she maintains an affiliation as Neuroscientist.
Lopez-Bresnahan served as an AYA delegate from 2009 to 2012 and has been a Yale alumni leader in Boston for many years. She served on the board of the Yale Club of Boston (YaleBoston), ultimately as board president. In that position she focused on the key objective of broadening the reach of YaleBoston to all Boston-area alumni.
Following her term as president of YaleBoston, Lopez-Bresnahan was elected to the AYA Board of Governors in 2013. On the Board she has participated in numerous committees and initiatives, and chaired the Shared Interest Groups committee during the 2015-2016 year. She currently serves as a member of the board’s Executive Committee.
Since graduating from the Yale School of Management, John Lucarelli has had a profound sense of giving back to the alma mater that has so deeply enriched his life. After one of SOM’s founders, William H. Donaldson ’53, personally recruited him to join his Wall Street firm, Donaldson instilled in him the importance of continuing a lifelong relationship with Yale. This he did through recruiting efforts and donating time and resources to local fundraising and charity work. He has been a member of the Yale Club of New York City and the Yale Alumni Association of Greenwich (YAAG), where he has served as board member, vice-president and treasurer.
During Lucarelli’s tenure as a YAAG officer, the club has strengthened its internal governance, expanded its online presence, broadened outreach to Student Interest Groups (SIGs), empowered members to give back to Yale, and leveraged its annual speaker series and social event calendar has brought Yale closer to its community. He has supported Yale’s International Security Studies (ISS) program since its inception and has worked with distinguished faculty members Charles Hill, John Lewis Gaddis and Paul Bracken through the AYA-Redpath Speakers Program and other events sponsored by the Yale Club of New York City and YAAG.
Lucarelli and his wife Cheryl currently live in backcountry Greenwich. They both work in real estate and own a local medical device manufacturer. In their free time, they enjoy international travel, donating time and resources to various not-for-profits, and spending as much time as possible at Yale events.
Matt Meade is a shareholder at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he is the founder and co-chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Group helping clients respond to and prepare for data breaches.
In his volunteer capacity at Yale, Meade served as president of the Yale Club of Pittsburgh from 2009 to 2011, and as vice-president of the Yale Swimming and Diving Association from 2011 to 2015). Currently he is president of the Yale Swimming and Diving Association, a member of the Yale Sports Federation, and — since 2014 — a member of the AYA Board of Governors. While on the board he has facilitated a mock-interview skills session that he developed as part of the AYA’s Careers Life & Yale (CLY) initiative.
Under Meade’s leadership, the Yale Club of Pittsburgh won an AYA Excellence Award for best small Yale Club, and the YSDA won AYA Excellence awards for its career mentoring program (2014) and its Yale Day of Service project (2016) for teaching inner-city children how to swim. He is a 2016 Yale Leadership Award recipient.
Sheryl Carter Negash is the managing partner of Negash and Associates, a consulting firm based in Los Angeles that provides technical assistance in leadership development, professional coaching, project management, and employment and training to government entities, community organizations, churches, school organizations and social profit agencies around the country. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
Negash serves or has served in leadership positions with a variety of Yale volunteer organizations, including the Yale Black Alumni Association, the Yale Day of Service, YaleWomen, the Yale Club of Los Angeles, the Alumni Schools Committee, and the Yale College Class of 1982. She is now a member of the AYA Board of Governors and acts as a co-chair of its Yale Alumni Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion.
In 2011, Negash received the AYA “Ambassador for Yale” Leadership Award for Volunteer Innovation and Service. In 2012, under her leadership, YBAA was honored with the AYA Outstanding SIG Award, and YBAA’s Los Angeles chapter received the AYA SIG Service Award for Day of Service Engagement. That year, she was also recognized by the AYA for distinguished service to the Yale College Class of 1982.
Tom Opladen, the executive chairman of MMT Inc., is president and co-founder of the Yale Veterans Association. He is treasurer of the Yale Class of 1966 and co-chair of its annual class dinner. He serves as a member of the Athletics Committee of the Yale Club of New York City, and is a director of the New York chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors, as well as chairman of the chapter’s Membership Committee.
Opladen was a Director of PB Inc., a multibillion-dollar global engineering firm, from 1989 to 2009, and chaired its Audit Committee and Finance Committee for most of that period. Prior to that he was CEO of Graham Field Health Products Inc., an Atlanta-based manufacturer of durable medical products; a senior vice-president and director of corporate finance in the Investment Banking Group at Bank of America in New York; director of private placements for Bank of America; a vice-president in the Investment Banking Department at Shearson Loeb Rhoades; and director of Burns and Roe, an engineering firm in Oradell, New Jersey.
Opladen received a B.S. degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years after receiving his commission through the Yale NROTC program, last serving as the chief engineer and third-in-command of a destroyer. He holds a Certificate of Director Education (CDE) from the National Association of Corporate Directors, where he is a governance fellow.
Rahul Prasad is a senior physicist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he leads a research group at the National Ignition Facility. In the years after he received his PhD in engineering and applied science at Yale, he served on the research faculty at Yale, worked as a research scientist at Physics International and later Science Research Lab, and in 1994 co-founded a small business, Alameda Applied Sciences Corporation.
In his volunteer capacity at Yale, Prasad served as a member, secretary, treasurer, vice-chair (2002-10) and chair (2010-12) of the Graduate School Alumni Association, where he helped create the “Where Do I Go from Yale?” annual GSAS Career event. While a member of the AYA Board of Governors, he created two career workshops — Green Careers for Yale Blues, and Healthy Career Choices — to bring alumni back to campus to provide students career and life-skills advice. He co-founded the AYA’s Careers Life and Yale (CLY) program in 2015 while an executive officer of the AYA Board of Governors.
A long-standing member of the Yale Club of San Francisco board of directors, Prasad currently serves as its president. In July 2016, he was named chair of the Association of Yale Alumni Board of Governors — the first alum of the Yale Graduate School to hold that post.
Frederick (“Fritz”) Reichenbach is president for investment and operations at CapBridge, a private institutional financing market for emerging growth companies based in Singapore that was jointly founded by the Singapore Exchange, ClearBridge Accelerator, and Healthios Capital Markets, a healthcare investment banking boutique that Fritz co-founded with his Yale roommate and fellow lightweight crewmember.
Reichenbach earned his Masters of Management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in 1992 prior to advising in Poland for a USAID program in 1993. Prior to Healthios he served as CFO for a healthcare-staffing firm, as CFO for a patient education and disease management company, as a London-based partner for an M&A and strategy advisory firm specializing in Central and Eastern Europe, and as a consultant at Accenture.
On behalf of Yale, Reichenbach served as an AYA Delegate from 2011 to 2014. At the Yale Club of Chicago he volunteered as vice-president (2012–2014) and president (2014-2016). He is currently in his third year as a member of the AYA Board of Governors.
Anthony Sabatelli holds a PhD in organic chemistry from Yale and a law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He is an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven, as well as a registered patent attorney and partner at Dilworth IP. Prior to joining Dilworth, he was vice-president and general counsel at Rib-X Pharmaceuticals Inc. — now Melinta Therapeutics Inc. — and previously held patent counsel positions at both Merck and Procter & Gamble. He himself is an inventor on over a dozen patents.
In his volunteer capacity at Yale, Sabatelli served on the board of the Graduate School Alumni Association as a member, secretary, treasurer, vice chair (2007-14) and chair (2014-16). Through the GSAA he helped create the annual “Where Do I Go from Yale?” career event. He was recently elected to the AYA Board of Governors and serves on the board’s Graduate and Professional Schools Committee, the Careers Life & Yale Committee, and the Marketing and Communications Committee.
Sabatelli is a frequent speaker and writer on issues relating to intellectual property and policy and government affairs issues.
Pulin Sanghvi currently serves as the inaugural executive director of career services at Princeton University, where he is leading a reimagining of the university’s career center focused on purposeful and meaningful work. He teaches a “Career and Life Vision” program that has drawn thousands of members of the Princeton, Stanford and Yale communities, and is launching a student-alumni social networking platform for Princeton.
Sanghvi graduated from Yale in 1992 with a B.A. summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with Distinction in Economics, and also holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He serves Yale on the Association of Yale Alumni’s Board of Governors, where he chairs the Alumni Fellow Nominating Committee and serves on the Careers, Life & Yale and Marketing & Communications Committees. He also serves on the National Board of Directors of Positive Coaching Alliance, a nonprofit focused on changing the win-at-all-cost culture in youth sports.
Sanghvi previously served as assistant dean and director of the Career Management Center at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and worked at McKinsey & Company in Palo Alto and Morgan Stanley & Company in New York. He also served on an advisory council to the Association of Yale Alumni, and served for eight years as the Palo Alto Alumni Schools Committee Director.
As executive vice-president of marketing for AMC and SundanceTV, Linda Schupack is responsible for the strategic oversight, management and implementation of brand identities, multiplatform consumer and trade marketing activities — including advertising campaigns and consumer and advertising sales promotions — and digital marketing and social media for both networks. Schupack has been running the marketing function at AMC since 2005 and was promoted to executive vice-president in 2012. She assumed responsibility for marketing at SundanceTV in 2015.
Before joining AMC, Schupack served for four years as senior vice president of creative services at its parent company, then called Rainbow Media Holdings LLC. In that role, she served as Rainbow Media’s chief creative mind and was a key architect in the evolution of the AMC, IFC and WE TV brands. She oversaw the development of advertising, promotion, collateral and new media materials for all of Rainbow Media’s businesses, including the corporate brand. Prior to that, Schupack held a number of senior positions at Viacom’s Nickelodeon, including vice president of marketing and programming for Nickelodeon International.
Schupack supports various educational initiatives, including spearheading fundraising activities for Yale University and serving on the Yale Alumni Association’s Board of Governors. She has also served as a WICT mentor and currently serves as chairman of the board of “The Flea,” a Tribeca-based theater presenting bold and adventurous plays and performances.
Elisa Spungen Bildner, a 1978 Columbia Law School graduate, is a former attorney, journalist, entrepreneur and Jewish communal leader. She served as CEO of FreshPro, a produce processor supplying the food industry in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, which she sold in 2007. Prior to that, she practiced law in New York and New Jersey. She was a reporter/editor at The Star-Ledger and journalism professor at Rutgers and NYU specializing in media ethics/law. She has authored numerous articles for consumer, trade and scholarly publications.
Spungen Bildner was named one of 10 “Jewish Women to Watch” in 2007 and listed as one of the “Top 100 People Positively Influencing Jewish Life.” She co-founded the Foundation for Jewish Camp, a public foundation supporting Jewish summer experiences, and co-chairs its Board of Trustees. She is past president of the international Jewish news agency JTA, and past chair of the Jewish Funders Network, an international organization of philanthropists. She is also on the board of the Jewish Book Council and chairs the National Jewish Book Awards fiction panel. In 2013, President Obama appointed her to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council.
Spunger Bildner is on the AYA Board of Governors, the Yale Development Council, the Women’s Health Research at Yale Council, and the board of the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale. She is a founding member of YaleWomen and serves on its council. She and her husband, Rob Bildner ’72, are Sterling Fellows, and proud parents of Elana ’06; Ari ’09, SOM ’16; Eli ’10; and Rafi ’16. A trained vegan chef, she teaches yoga, and is writing a farm-to-table cookbook together with Rob.
Nancy Stratford, vice chair of the AYA Board of Governors, earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale in 1977 and an MBA from the Wharton School in 1982. She is a co-founder of YaleWomen, the shared interest group for women at Yale; a founder and chapter head of YaleWomen NYC; a past chair of the Yale Alumni Fund; a past member of the Yale Tomorrow Campaign Committee; and a current member of the Yale Development Council and the 1977 Class Council. She also continues as Chair of Agents for her class. She has received the YAF Chairman’s Award and the Yale Medal.
With others, Stratford is currently leading a pilot mentoring program for alumni and students sponsored by the AYA, CLY (Careers, Life & Yale), and STAY (Students and Alumni at Yale). She has served on the women’s committee of the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club for 20 years. She also chairs the Education and Scholarship Committee for the CDA.
Professionally, Stratford was a senior vice-president at Paine Webber for many years, where she advised large institutions, hedge funds, mutual funds and government entities on investments. She was also a private banker at J.P. Morgan. She now manages private portfolios.
A career journalist, Betsy Sullivan is director of opinion for the cleveland.com news website in Cleveland, Ohio, and directs the editorial board for both The Plain Dealer newspaper and cleveland.com. As a Yale undergraduate, she was a member of the second class of women to be admitted to Yale as freshmen, and was the first varsity captain of Yale women’s crew. Both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees were in Russian and East European Studies; she was a guest speaker at the 2004 “Russian and Slavic Studies at Yale” alumni conference.
Sullivan co-chairs the Board of Governors’ Careers, Life and Yale Committee, and is organizer of this year’s “STEM Careers: Formulae and Solutions for Success” conference for Yale students. She served on the Graduate School Alumni Association board from 2012 to 2016, as recording secretary in her final year, and was co-chair of the 2016 GSAA-sponsored “Where Do I Go From Yale?” alumni-presented career conference for graduate students. She served on the selection committee for the Wilbur Cross Medal in 2014-2015.
In 2016 Sullivan served as the Yale Day of Service regional director for Ohio. She is a trustee of the Yale Alumni Association of Cleveland, volunteers as an interviewer for the Yale Alumni Schools Committee, and is active in the Cleveland chapter of YaleWomen. She has been a member of the Board of Governors since 2015.
Caroline Van is an independent advisor based in Hong Kong. Her first career spanned 17 years in international business in the U.S. and Asia, managing institutional banking clients on global market strategies, and serving as a member of Morgan Stanley’s first Asia Management Committee. She also served on a variety of nonprofit boards focusing on education, nature conservation, social change, and the arts. She recently teamed up with Yale alumni in Hong Kong to launch a global knowledge-sharing platform called IvySpace, which connects highly qualified mentors with students in Asia for personalized online learning.
Van’s volunteer work for Yale began as a student with her class’s quarter century fund, then after graduation as an ASC interviewer while working in Chicago and earning an MBA at Chicago Booth. After serving as an AYA Delegate from 1997 to 2000, she was elected president of the Yale Club of Hong Kong in 2002. During her tenure she diversified the club’s board, expanded club activities and member participation severalfold, and cofounded the HK Bulldogs internship program. Since 2009, as president emeritus and ASC Director, she continues to host numerous alumni events, and is spearheading the Hong Kong chapter of YaleWomen.
Van’s passion for connecting alumni to each other and to students as mentors led her to be a founding committee member of the AYA’s Careers, Life and Yale initiative. She was a recipient of the inaugural 2014 Alumni Excellence Award from the Yale Office of Admissions. In 2013 she joined the AYA Board of Governors as the first Asia-based member, and was elected as an executive officer in 2016.
Chris Walsh is a pediatric cardiologist at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in New York City. A fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology, she is director of the Pediatric Dysrhythmia Center and a co-director of the Montefiore/Einstein Center for CardioGenetics. She is also a professor emerita at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Walsh graduated from the Yale School of Medicine and did her internship and residency in pediatrics at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Her fellowship in pediatric cardiology was at Columbia’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and she was an NIH post-doctoral research trainee in cardiac electrophysiology and pharmacology. She has received the Lewis M. Fraad Award for Excellence in Teaching, has been named a Master Teacher, and has held office in a variety of professional organizations, including as president of the Pediatric Cardiology Society of Greater New York.
During Dr. Walsh’s service on the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine Executive Committee from 1999 to 2015 she was its AYA Delegate, secretary, vice-president and president, and received its Distinguished Alumni Service Award. As a member of the AYA Board of Governors for the past 3 years, currently as an executive officer, she co-chaired the 2015 AYA Assembly, “To Your Health: Yale and Public Health in the 21st Century.” She has participated in the Yale Day of Service and has served as a panelist on Green Careers for Yale Blues, Healthy Career Choices, Being Useful, and STEM Careers: Formulae and Solutions for Success.
