Fred Mallender, Attorney served on two Bar groups

BLOOMFIELD HILLS -- Longtime attorney Fred Mallender died of cancer on Thursday, June 12, 2003, in Beaumont Hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Mallender graduated from Yale University in 1952, then received his doctorate in 1955 from the University of Michigan Law School, where he received the Order of the Coif for being among the top 10 graduates of his class.
Mr. Mallender became the managing partner of the Bloomfield Hills law firm, Vestevitch, Mallender, DuBois and Dritsas.
Mr. Mallender also served on the boards of both the Michigan and American Bar Associations. For a time, he served as president of the National Planned Parenthood Association.
Survivors include two sons, John and William; a daughter, Mary Ford; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday.
