Carl Copp at the Yale Band Alumni Weekend
It was great fun attending the annual Yale Band Alumni weekend Oct. 23 and learning how well band conductor Tom Duffy's musical organization has advanced since our last band reunion.
A few highlights include:
- A new endowment fund has been set up for the band and is already over $1.5 million.
- Announcement of this achievement was made at the parents weekend when also the 100th anniversary of composition of Yale's Stan Friedman's "Down the Field" was celebrated and former band leader Kieth Wilson was asked to direct it.
- The new Gilmore Music Library is a handsome addition to Yale.
- The old Hendrie Practice Hall is slated for major future renovation, thank goodness.
- The band's popular "Glenn Miller Returns" concert is scheduled for another Veteran's Day performance.
No, I did not march with the YPMB at halftime this year, but maybe next year??
