After military service in the U.S. Navy, Tom joined an architectural firm in Baltimore where he practiced thirty-five years designing concert halls, public plazas, housing, office buildings, and hospitals. After retiring in 1995, he was lured back into the business by his son, also an architect, as a "Senior Architect", working three days a week.

This is his home in Severna Park, MD, which he designed and built in 1966.

Lincoln Roden III
Yale 1952
LL.B. University of Pennsylvania 1955

Golf's Golden Age (1996 Reed Drabick, Inc)

The book is a first hand view of golf as it was played from 1945-1954. It highlights the changes in rules, equipment, maintenance, and media coverage over the years.

Lincoln felt compelled to write this book because the “standards of the game“, as William Flynn the great golf course architect put it, and the level of challenge and the thrill or agony of response deteriorated so much. He had a rare perspective from playing amateur golf at the highest level from 1949 to 1954, and then returning to the game in the 1980's. He wanted people to know how great golf was, and could be again. The improvements in equipment and the changes in maintenance practices over the last 50-55 years have had a much greater impact on the standards of the game than generally recognized. The challenges faced by top players today on the great classic courses, is nothing like the architects intended or the early players faced.

Lincoln hoped this book would influence the USGA to take the lead in reducing the golf ball length and changing the recommended maintenance practices so that the “standards of play” and the challenge could be restored.
