The Class Dinner

After cocktails, an excellent dinner was served under the tent in the Branford Courtyard on Friday evening followed by a brief business meeting and then by the Class Dinner Speaker.

Election of Officers Class Secretary, Barry Bryan presented the Nominating Committee's proposed slate of officers for the upcoming term. The open bar had fostered such an airwasf conviviality among the assembled classmates that the nominees were elected by acclamation.

Reunion Gift John Furth announced that we had far exceeded our goal of $11 million for our reunion year class gift. In fact, our gift as currently totalled amounts to $29.2 million! He noted that we have also reached 83% participation combining both the special reunion gifts with the great work of Alan Stamm and our Alumni Fund. This places us in 4th place for all 55th reunion special gifts and only slightly behind the class of 1937, in 3rd place. Our classmates were extraordinarily generous with important new participation of funding an endowed chair, an equally valuable and unique piece of art and major funding to expand and extend The Grand Strategic Program of Professors Gaddis, Kennedy and Hill. John also expressed his my deepest thanks to all the members of the committee for their diligent and persistent efforts throughout the last 12 months.

AYA Awards Class Secretary, Barry Bryan then presented the following Association of Yale Alumni Awards:

Lifetime Achievement Awards to

George Adams and Wright Rumbough — "for service to the class over five decades as Reunion Chairs, Reunion Gift and Annual Giving solicitors, Class Councillors, and in Wright's case Class Secretary."

Distinguished Service Awards to

Alan Stamm —" for his dedication, incredible energy and service beyond any conceivable call of duty over the past decade in leading our Class to the top of the league tables in annual giving to the Yale Alumni Fund. In the process, his very personal contacts with scores, indeed hundreds, of classmates has brought us all closer together."

Don McCoy —"for designing, building, editing and maintaining our magnificent Class website -- now a model for the University -- and even more impressively, finding ways to educate and entice a Class of Luddites to go on line and use it."

Gerry Hotchkiss —"for organizing and running our first mini-reunion in many years -- a spectacular event in Santa Fe that was acclaimed by all who had the good sense and good fortune to attend (and that actually came in in the black)."

Barry Bryan— "for his outstanding performance and devotion to duty as Class Secretary over the last five years." (This presentation was made by Reunion Chairman, Frank Wilton)

Class Dinner Speaker Following the Class Dinner and the Class Meeting, classmate Bob Fiske entertained and enlightened us with his comments on "What's Good About Lawyers?" More about Bob Fiske and his career

Class Memorial Service The Service, held in Battel Chapel Friday afternoon, was conducted by George Dole with the assistance of Philip Parham and Anne Kimball. Appropriate hymns were provided by the Whiffenpoofs. Many of our former Class Secretaries and Treasurers read the approximately 90 names of our classmates who had died since the 50th Reunion. The full text of the Class Memorial Service is available on this website, along with the names of the deceased classmates.
